Be Human, Be Kind, Design with all in Mind

Monday, Oct 22 8:30 - 9:15

Presented by Amanda Frisbee

We often focus our efforts on making websites accessible to blind and visually impaired users, and fail to consider the unique needs of deaf and hard of hearing users as well. Join me on a journey into a world you may not have contemplated before. One that will make you realize just how dependent on sound hearing people are. During this exploration, I will show you how to make the online experience mutually beneficial for deaf and hard of hearing users. Helping you take on a new perspective when it comes to creating content that is accessible for all users, and sharing examples of how I have done so myself. Each individual experiences things differently, but we are all human, after all.

About

Amanda Frisbee

Webmaster

Amanda Frisbee is the Webmaster at Wisconsin School for the Deaf. She is responsible for the web presence of all programs within the Wisconsin Educational Services Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and was the mastermind behind moving the program's daily functions into G Suite for Education. Surrounded by deaf and hard of hearing colleagues and students every day has shifted Frisbee's mindset. She now often pauses to consider how deaf and hard of hearing individuals experience life differently than she does. When she's not in front of a computer, Frisbee enjoys escaping from technology to enjoy the outdoors and travel around the world. To date, she has traveled to 38 states, 30 National Parks, 5 continents, and 9 countries.
