Herding a clowder of cats: how Mizzou cost-effectively migrated hundreds of websites
Tuesday, Oct 15 10:45 - 11:30
Presented by Paul Gilzow and Jessica Orozco and John BoyerIn 2015, the University of Missouri’s IT department handed its marketing department a monumental task: to move 25% of its 1,600 on-prem websites to the cloud. In concert, the administration mandated that these 400 – 500 unmanaged WordPress, Drupal, and static sites be migrated, standardized, and centrally managed across a decentralized campus. All tall orders.
Like most HigherEd institutions, the University of Missouri doesn’t have a pool of excess funding or resources. So, how could their team efficiently and cost-effectively move the sites to a managed platform where updates and changes could be deployed to all sites quickly, securely, and consistently while minimizing downtime?
Join the University of Missouri and Platform.sh as they discuss the journey to successfully manage hundreds of sites across a decentralized campus without costly DevOps resources. The university will share the challenges they encountered and lessons learned as they made the transition to continuous integration and delivery. And learn about the automation tools that enabled the team to focus on what they do best: delivering solutions that meet the university’s business needs.
